Leaders today need gravitas to make an impact and be heard. Gravitas is the quiet confidence that takes you beyond your qualifications and experience to be the obvious choice to be listened to and heard.
Your gravitas takes you further in the boardroom and in your career, and shows you to be the person to turn to when times are uncertain and decisions need to be made.
Why The Gravitas Project?
We want to let you into a secret… women who lead possess Gravitas! Those women who capture your attention, make you feel good when you spend time with them. You trust them, listen to them and yet it can be hard to say why.
Having worked at board level and in some of the most senior positions both in Australia and internationally, we know what gravitas is and how to develop it.
Those with gravitas deal with the weighty ‘issues’ and have the ability to be seen as a person of authority who engages and influences others while holding their own in difficult or unprecedented situations.
Having gravitas is the difference between landing your next role and being told "you have a great CV and you are very qualified BUT..." You know you are highly experienced and have good qualifications, the hidden and often missing element is your gravitas.
Gravitas is demonstrated through an ability to handle difficult situations in unchartered waters. Those with gravitas influence, network and face any situation with poise, confidence and authenticity. And you can learn to do this too!
- Becoming aware that the current strategy of "working really hard and doing a great job" will not get you where you want to go... - Worried that your "peak moment" will come and go and you'll be passed over for that "perfect" promotion or board... - Scared of applying for more roles and not landing them and having to deal with the disappointment... - Feeling lost and awkward at networking events... - Craving honest feedback: "If someone would just tell me what the problem is, I'd fix it!"... - Frustrated and a little confused by the apparent upward movement of people who have less qualifications and experience...
Then The Gravitas Project is for you.
We will work with you to develop your knowhow to open a conversation at a networking event, to be heard and make your opinion count and to project yourself in a manner that shows confidence not arrogance. Be the obvious choice when the next opportunity comes along.
Refined International believes in every person’s ability to develop and lead. Specifically, we want to support women to be able to reach their highest potential and unearth their hidden ability to hold their own in any business situation including the board room and in difficult or unprecedented situations.
Dr. Lynn Gribble is one of Australian founding coaches, a pragmatic futurist, and an award-winning author and university lecturer, who coaches and trains her clients to embrace new technology and future proof their careers in the ever-evolving workplace.
Lynn’s expertise stems from her earlier international careers as both a professional athlete and a successful corporate training and development manager, before she embarked on her studies and was recognized with numerous prestigious teaching awards for her work as a digital innovator in technology-enabled academia.
The culmination of these experiences, plus a shock retrenchment and achieving her PhD in two years, as a somewhat accidental academic, taught Lynn the discipline and grit she now passes on to her clients. Lynn coaches career resilience and how to creatively realise her own philosophy; everything is possible, it is just a matter of how.
A sought after speaker and thought leader on emerging issues in the world of work, leadership, change management, organizational behavior, education design and consultancy and assessment and training design and delivery, Lynn is a Consultant Academic and Lecturer at UNSW Australia and an Adjunct Doctoral Supervisor at SCU.
A recognized leader in both teaching and learning, Lynn received UNSW’s Vice Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award in 2011 and the Facilitation Award for Teaching Excellence. In 2014 her work was recognized with the Outstanding Technology-Enabled Teaching Innovation Award.
Now as the co-founder of The Gravitas Project Lynn is able to share her board room experience and bring together the silent knowledge from such senior roles in Human Resources to help you unlock your potential for you next role. Having lived the challenges faced by women to make it to a senior level, Lynn knows what it takes and has achieved that as well.
Amanda MacLean has spent the last 20 years in executive positions and on advisory boards. From heading up global programs and being a Chief Operating Officer she knows how women can be heard at a senior level.
Amanda's time working in various senior positions has provided insight as to the complex and opaque structures that limit people in their quest to advance in their careers, and for the past 20 years she has been assisting CEOs to apply these insights to grow their businesses. Early in her career, Amanda worked in telecommunications and consulting firms affording her a solid grounding in how global business operates.
During her various corporate positions and advisory boards Amanda has assisted businesses to merge, ensured they have solid governance procedures and been able to expand to meet business growth objectives. It was landing in a smaller Not For Profit where she was able to expand on her desire to work with integrity and care beyond profit. Giving back along the way has underpinned Amanda's work since then.
Amanda believes that women can make a real difference in senior management, the boardroom and beyond. Through support and unlocking potential, women can make significant changes to both the work they do and how they do it which has lead Amanda to be an active mentor for other women business owners.
A regular contributor to a number of blogs, Amanda is also a presenter of a number of key programs for women in relation to financial well-being and managing risk. She's been able to blend this with providing specialist skills and advice to ensure cultural sensitivities can also be addressed.
Frequently as the only female ‘at the table’ Amanda is seen as a role model for how women can lead with impact and confidence in their own way. She remains open to learning and is excited to be co-founder of The Gravitas Project for women who lead, helping other women unlock their potential for career growth — Amanda looks forward to sitting with them ‘at the table’.
The Gravitas Project in detail
The Gravitas Project is for women who lead to enable them to be the obvious choice for the next position to the C-Suite, boardroom and beyond.
Over 12 months you will attend 4 x two day sessions to further develop your skills and build your gravitas. Surrounded by a small group of select women you will explore how gravitas will take you further and beyond what you are currently doing. Women with gravitas (like Michelle Obama, Quentin Bryce and Elizabeth Proust) are remembered for all the right reasons.
Your group of highly educated and already senior positioned women will provide you a supportive environment. Our groups are carefully constructed to ensure you are with a group of women who are not competing for similar roles to you but are travelling a similar path building your own personal community.
The community will be led by Amanda MacLean and Lynn Gribble who have both sat at senior positions and at board level too. They know first-hand what ‘works’. Along with a panel of hand-picked expert facilitators, they will support and guide you on how you can build this too.
The project is an immersive experience meeting every quarter for 2 days. In between you have the chance to build and use the skills from the previous session along within a 60 minute Skype coaching session with Lynn or Amanda.
You will also have access to a closed community portal (only available to the women in your group), to ask questions and access specialised content as well as a safe place to ask for advice, ponder, share and vent along the way. Creating a trusted network of women on the same journey... for the duration of the project and for the years ahead.
While being part of The Gravitas Project you will consider who you are and where you desire to be, how to build resilience to support your choices, and not lose yourself along the way. Developing gravitas and networks, and what it means to be a woman at the top in 2020 and beyond.
The project content is all about developing you to be confident in all situations from the boardroom to the bored room.
Over each session you will work with experts in diplomacy and resilience, to voice and body movement. Amanda and Lynn will explore how behavioural flexibility can be developed to ensure you are ready to face any situation as it arises and deal gracefully and graciously with even the most complex and challenging situations. We will support you to develop a network to be the obvious choice for your next stage of your career.
Each 2 day block is designed as a learn and embed and experiment process. From understanding how your personality drives your behaviours and creating flexible behaviours to support you in all situations, to knowing how to ‘work the room’ and handle the ‘sticky situations’, The Gravitas Project is for women who lead to move beyond their formal education into the unspoken rules of the game for women at work.
Are you ready to invest in a year of you and go beyond what you are currently doing to get to the next level?
